Why Tropic?
As someone who has lived with and managed eczema for over thirty years, I know firsthand how overwhelming and frustrating it can be to choose skincare that doesn’t irritate, inflame, or trigger flare-ups.
As a nutritional therapist, I’ve also learnt that what we put on our skin is just as important as what we put into our body when it comes to overall wellbeing. Skin is not just a barrier — it’s an active, responsive organ, deeply connected to our internal health.
Sadly, many conventional beauty products contain ingredients that can be particularly problematic for sensitive or reactive skin. Certain preservatives, synthetic fragrances, and other commonly used chemicals have been associated with skin irritation and hormonal disruption. For those of us prone to eczema, acne or other sensitivities, this can mean flare-ups, inflammation, and long-term skin imbalance.
Over the years, I’ve spent a small fortune searching for products that truly worked for my skin. Many so-called “skin-friendly” options ended up straight in the bin. I’ve had swollen, irritated eyes from luxury makeup brands, and finding a sunscreen that was both reef-friendly and gentle enough for my eczema felt almost impossible.
In desperation, I even started mixing my own holiday skincare potions — with some rather comical results. One blend worked well… except it was so greasy we looked like sugared doughnuts, collecting sand everywhere we went. Then there was the time I thought it would be a brilliant idea to add my beta-carotene supplement into the mix. Let’s just say we ended up glowing orange, much to the amusement of fellow beach-goers.

Those experiences taught me an important lesson: good intentions aren’t enough — formulation really matters.
I don’t recommend skincare lightly. Anything I share has been tested on the most honest critic I know — my own skin. Since I began practising, this is the only skincare brand I’ve chosen to affiliate with, as it genuinely aligns with my values, my skin, and my holistic approach to wellbeing.
The constant search for “the right” products can be exhausting — especially when you have sensitive or reactive skin, and even more so when you’ve lived in different countries and had to start that search all over again. I know there are other good brands out there. My intention isn’t to suggest otherwise.
What I do want is to help those who share similar values and are looking for skincare that offers uncompromising quality, integrity, and real results — without the endless trial and error.
And on a very personal note, I’m genuinely over the moon that I can now wear shimmery eye shadow without worrying that I’ll look like I’ve stepped out of a boxing ring the next day. That, for me, is a small but meaningful win.
